As the very first stage of Amazon in the supply chain is the warehouse. The location would be the most important issue that affects the services of Amazon. Based on the services, it would affect many aspects of the supply chain especially time usage. Amazon has many warehouses globally and most of them are located near the city which has many populations.

In the supply chain of Amazon, they are building different sizes of warehouses, at different locations to perform functions. Amazon is having those huge warehouses function as the central distribution warehouse, and also build those smaller warehouses as sub-warehouses to deliver the product to the consumer. Based on the calculation on the demand of goods, Amazon will prepare the stock in the central warehouse and distribute it to the sub-warehouse. In this case, Amazon could ensure a quick response while consumers put orders by a shorter range.

In another word, the performance of the warehouse of Amazon is hooking up with a few factors which are capability and responsiveness. Amazon would actually consider the function of the warehouse such as central or sub-warehouse before building the warehouse. While choosing the location too, Amazon also considers the road traffic and network to enhance the efficiency and responsiveness of the supply chain. This is also why Amazon is building the central warehouse near to the city too.
